Emergency Liquidity Assistance Facility(Honiara, 30.06.10)- The Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) today announces the launch of a new Emergency Liquidity Assistance Facility (ELAF) for the licensed banks in Solomon Islands. This new facility will enable the CBSI to carry out a role as lender of last resort for the commercial banks. The CBSI Governor, Denton Rarawa explained that this new facility would give the CBSI power, but not the obligation, to make available loans and advances to commercial banks that are solvent, but face a large liquidity crisis.
