50th Anniversary – Pearl Harbor


To mark the 50th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor the Central Bank of Solomon Islands has authorized the Royal Mint to strike a cupro-nickel $1 coin.





The reverse, designed by Dutch medalist and sculptor Willem Vis, depicts the dramatic scene of conflict in the sky, sea and on land. Attacking Japanese Val dive-bombers are depicted with American gunners in the foreground and with American gunners in the foreground and with the main superstructure of the battleship Nevada outlined in the smoke-filled sky to complete the scene of battle. Raphael Maklouf’s elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the observer.
