Governor of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI), Dr. Luke Forau officially launched WG-CONNECT, a new Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Working Group Alumni Programme aimed at strengthening collaboration, preserving policy expertise, and maintaining engagement among former AFI Working Group members worldwide.
The launch took place during the AFI Working Group Convergence in Port Moresby this week as part of the 2026 AFI Global Policy Forum programme. The initiative provides a platform for former Working Group participants to remain connected with AFI activities, continue sharing expertise, and contribute to advancing financial inclusion long after completing their active Working Group service.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Forau emphasized the important role that AFI Working Groups have played in developing practical financial inclusion solutions and strengthening cooperation among policymakers and regulators across the globe.
“AFI's Working Groups have brought together hundreds of policymakers and regulators from across the network to develop practical solutions and advance financial inclusion. WG-CONNECT ensures that this expertise remains connected and continues to support the growth of inclusive financial systems around the world,” Governor Forau said.
Governor Forau stated that the new programme would help retain valuable institutional knowledge accumulated through years of policy development and peer learning while creating opportunities for experienced practitioners to continue supporting future generations of policymakers.
He also acknowledged the contributions of CBSI officers who have actively participated in AFI Working Groups over the years, noting that their engagement has helped advance financial inclusion efforts both nationally and across the Pacific region.
WG-CONNECT enables former Working Group members to remain engaged with the AFI network through knowledge-sharing, mentoring, and collaboration opportunities while formally recognizing their contributions to advancing inclusive finance.
The launch supports the broader objectives of the 2026 AFI Global Policy Forum, which is being held under the theme “Resilient Economies, Inclusive Future.” The Forum brings together central banks, financial regulators, development partners and industry leaders to explore how financial inclusion can contribute to resilient and sustainable economic development.
