The Governor of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) has been formally appointed as Vice Chair of the Pacific Islands Regional Initiative (PIRI), following the leadership rotation endorsed at the 15th PIRI Leaders' Roundtable held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The appointment reflects the growing role of CBSI in advancing financial inclusion and digital finance initiatives across the Pacific region and reinforces Solomon Islands' commitment to regional collaboration and policy leadership.
During the Leaders' Roundtable, the Governor provided updates on several key CBSI initiatives, including the upcoming nationwide Financial Services Demand Side Survey, progress on the Unified QR Code project, development of the Digital Financial Literacy Hub, implementation of Inclusive Green Finance activities, and financial literacy programmes reaching communities across the country. CBSI also reported advances in MSME financing, the National Payment System, and preparations for the rollout of Bokolo Cash, the Bank's Central Bank Digital Currency initiative.
Speaking after the meeting, the Governor acknowledged the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared opportunities and challenges in financial inclusion.
"CBSI is honoured to assume the role of PIRI Vice Chair and looks forward to working closely with fellow members to advance an inclusive, innovative, and resilient financial sector across the Pacific."
PIRI is a regional platform under the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) that brings together central banks and financial regulators to promote financial inclusion, digital financial services, consumer empowerment, and inclusive green finance throughout the Pacific region.
As Vice Chair, CBSI will support the implementation of PIRI's regional work programme and strengthen collaboration among member institutions to expand access to financial services and drive sustainable economic development across the Pacific.
