HONIARA – 24th SEPTEMBER 2026— Royal Australian Mint in collaboration with CBSI, marks another important chapter in the progress of Solomon Islands currency with the release of the second SI circulating coin to feature the King Charles III effigy, the 50-cent coin.
Struck in Canberra at the Royal Australian Mint, the coin’s obverse features the King Charles III effigy designed by Daniel Thorne the same effigy that was launched in 2025 and appears on current $1 coinage along with the words Charles III l Solomon Islands 2025.
The reverse features the image of an Eagle Spirit, which symbolises a deity or sacred power in various island communities and the words ‘50 Cent’.
An eagle first appeared on the Solomon Island 2 cent coin in 1977, when the nation’s currency was first introduced.
In 2012, the Central Bank of Solomon Islands moved this classic design onto the 50-cent coin after the 1-cent and 2-cent coins were demonetised.
From October 2026, the 2025 dated 50-cent coin will appear in your change when shopping at the store or various marketplaces, retailers and shops.
